World Quality Week 2025: Rethinking Quality in Construction Documentation
This World Quality Week (10–14 November 2025), themed “Quality: Think Differently” (CQI), challenges all of us to step beyond traditional processes and ask: How can we redefine quality to be meaningful, actionable, and enduring?
In the world of construction documentation, quality has often been measured by completeness or adherence to standards. But what happens when the information is technically correct yet impossible to use, or when a manual sits on a shelf, untouched – sound familiar?
At Dewick & Associates, we think differently. We produce usable, high quality construction documentation so it can be easily accessed, referred to and used during the life of a building for optimum operation, maintenance and installation longevity.
Our Approach to Accessible Documentation
Gone are the days of hard copies files sat on a shelf in the Facility Managers office, all documentation should now be issued digitally with simple access options, we are able to provide:
- PDF documents via email or loaded onto a project provided tablet / device
- QR Codes for simple hand held device access, which can be located within key areas of a building
- Links for cloud hosted document on end users servers or our own in-house system
- Real-time access to all of our documentation via the client interface on nucleus, our bespoke online portal.
- Version control and structured workflows which ensures documentation is always accurate, up to date, and accessible.
Our Approach to Documentation Format
Through years of experience, reviews and updates based on real projects / client feedback, we have developed our standard documentation format to be clear and concise but still include all of the key technical detail required:
-
- Intuitive Layouts: Clear headings, logical structure, and visual cues make it easy to find critical information quickly.
- Consistent Formatting: our standard format follows a consistent style, reducing confusion and enhancing readability.
- User-Friendly Design: Diagrams, flowcharts, and tables are included to simplify and detail complex systems and procedures.
- Single Point of Reference: All project information, including sub-contractor documentation, commissioning reports, and as-installed drawings, is consolidated in one comprehensive document.
- Quick Navigation: Indexed sections and hyperlinks (digital versions) allow users to jump directly to the information they need.
- Long-Term Value: Designed not just for handover, but for ongoing building operation and maintenance, making it a true operational tool rather than a static record.
By combining these elements, our documentation ensures that clients spend less time searching for answers and more time confidently operating their buildings.
Quality Assurance: Accuracy You Can Trust
Our Quality Assurance (QA) procedures are interwoven into all of our internal processes and procedures, to ensure that all documentation is accurate, compliant, and fit for purpose before it reaches our clients. Key elements of our QA process include:
- Structured Workflow with nucleus: All documentation is managed through our bespoke client portal, ensuring version control, proper document tracking, and a clear audit trail.
- Technical Writer Review: Each manual, commissioning plan, or report passes through our rigorous internal production process by our in house Technical Writers to ensure clarity, completeness, and compliance with standards.
- Cross-Checks and Peer Reviews: Documentation is reviewed by additional team members, as needed, to catch any inconsistencies, errors, or missing information.
- Engineer Oversight: Experienced Chartered Professional Engineers review critical content to provide a second level of technical assurance, verifying that the information aligns with system specifications and industry standards.
- Feedback Loops: Lessons learned from client feedback and previous projects are incorporated to regular Technical Writer Workshops to ensure that we all continuously improve documentation quality.
This multi-tiered QA process guarantees that our clients receive documentation that is not only technically correct but also practical, user-friendly, and reliable for long-term building operations.
At Dewick & Associates, quality is more than compliance, we believe itis about creating documentation that is practical, accessible, and built to last. By combining years of experience, client-focused design, innovative digital tools like nucleus, and a rigorous Quality Assurance process overseen by skilled engineers, we ensure every document delivers clarity, reliability, and long-term operational value. Our approach empowers clients to confidently operate and maintain their buildings, turning construction documentation from a static record into a living, useful resource throughout the life of the asset.
In quality, it’s not just what you deliver, it’s how it transforms the experience of those who use it.
