September 2022 | University of Lethbridge, District Heating and Cooling Upgrade
Perched high above the Oldman River, University Hall, was constructed in 1971 as the flagship University of Lethbridge Building, located in West Lethbridge. The existing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems serving the building were the original systems installed which were old, inefficient, and subject to frequent breakdown.
As part of the Government of Alberta’s commitment to post-secondary institution accelerated capital maintenance and renewal, the University of Lethbridge have received $20 million to upgrade the district heating and cooling systems at University Hall. The new energy centre plant and equipment provides the heating and cooling requirements for approximately 80 per cent of the campus buildings including student residences, academic spaces, and research laboratories. The more efficient and functional systems also benefit the university by reducing carbon emissions and operational costs.
Dewick & Associates have provided Operation and Maintenance Manuals (O&M Manuals) for the mechanical services installation including detailed descriptions of the gas fired boilers, water cooled chillers, air handling units and energy recovery units, sanitary and plumbing systems. The O&M manuals also provide details on the maintenance requirements for each system, suggested fault finding / troubleshooting procedures and provision for test results, certification, shop drawings / manufacturer literature and As Built drawings. Growing from originally providing O&M manuals, to now offering a wide range of outsourcing options including Commissioning Plans, Health and Safety Files, and ESD Compliance documentation, Dewick & Associates have recently reshuffled our website to categorising our outsourcing options into five sections:
