In 2016, the Wee Hur Purpose Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) Master trust began to build a portfolio of 5,000 PBSA in major cities across Australia for over five years. PBSA has had success in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra and Sydney, with further accommodation under construction in Melbourne at 185 A’Beckett Street.

Located in Melbourne North-Central city area, the accommodation is within walking distance of RMIT University, The University of Melbourne, Victoria University and Australian Catholic University. A’Beckett, Melbourne is also close to Chinatown, Queen Victoria Market and Melbourne Central Train Station.

The existing three-story brick and concrete building dates back to 1938, originally being designed and built as an inter-war factory and office space. The European influence shows through the vertical stack porthole windows and concrete sun shades.

Wee Hur has revamped this derelict building, refurbishing the existing and vertically extending to provide 889 PBSA bedrooms, gym, movie theatre, game area, function rooms, outdoor terraces and amenities such as common laundry and communal kitchens.

Dewick & Associates have assisted Auscool Air Conditioning to provide a detailed Quality Assurance (QA) Plan and Checklist, Commissioning Plan and Inspection Test Plans (ITP’s) for the project. The QA Checklist details each stage of the installation, requiring sign off by both on-site and Project Management team members, to ensure that all equipment and associated ancillaries are safely and correctly installed and ready for operation. Also, it can be a monthly progress claim for the builder/managing contractor. We will also provide O&M manuals and populated ITP’s closer to Practical Completion.
