Mechanical Engineering | Docklands Primary School

The new ‘vertical’ Docklands Primary School on Footscray Road, Docklands, is one of many new primary schools being built across inner Melbourne by the Victorian Government to ease pressure on existing primary schools, whilst catering for a future population increase. At a cost of $58 million, the site will include a primary school with facilities for 525 students and an on-site kindergarten for 66 three and four year olds. The three storey building will incorporate Administration at ground level for ease of access, plus a Library, Music and Art Rooms, Sports Hall and Prep to Year 6 Learning Communities, all with integrated outdoor learning areas. The design incorporates acoustic control to minimise sound impact from the busy Footscray Road, plus high level outside air filtration to minimise pollution whilst maximising views to outside and the provision of natural light to the learning environment.

The mechanical services systems include chilled water and hot water plant, chilled water and heating hot water fan coil units, central air handling unit plant, exhaust air systems plus commercial and domestic exhaust systems.

Dewick & Associates assisted the Mechanical Contractor, Coolmaster, with all aspects of the Design and Construct process. Working with Coolmaster’s inhouse drafting team, we have provided a detailed assessment of the water and air side schematics, air side and water side static calculations, fan coil unit technical data reviews and ad hoc problem solving / advice as required.

We will continue to assist Coolmaster through the project as needed and provide the O&M Manuals to form part of the handover documentation.
